Fall/Winter Fashion: Adding (Minus the) Leather to Your Mom Wardrobe

Disclosure: Los Tweens was provided a transportation, a meal and a gift certificate to purchase items from Express. However, all opinions expressed are our own.

On a recent trip to New York, I kept noticing all of the faux leather being worn by the very good-looking and young women around me.  From tops to leggings, faux leather (or as Express calls it, minus-the-leather) was on everything.  I kept dishing out compliments and keeping a silent tally on how many of these women were moms.  The grand total = NONE!

Not being easily scared away from a fashion trend, I wondered how myself and other moms could pull off the look.  I was invited by Express to visit their remodeled Miami location at Dadeland Mall and decided this was my chance.  So surrounded by Miami’s fashion bloggers (again young, non-moms with great bodies), I went for it.

I learned that  faux (minus the) leather looks good on everyoneyou just have to find the right piece.  Don’t think full-body cat-suit. think small and work your way into more.  For example:

Minus the Leather Options for Moms

The A-line skirt  from Express pictured above features small accents that add detail.  It’s a great skirt for the office or a date night and a great way to test out the minus the leather waters.

Pick a top with faux leather accents that compliment your figure.  The one above from Express features minus the leather on the shoulders and draws attention to the face.  It’s comfortable enough to wear with your favorite jeans and still feel sexy.

Faux Leather Leggings

I love leggings and these with the minus-the leather detailing down the side can take you from school parking lot to an amiga night out without skipping a beat.  Plus, they make your legs look slimmer!

And, no fashion post would be complete if I didn’t include the peplum option:

Now, this is diving in.  I love this top and wore it to our recent Between Amigas event but I will warn that it is not for all.  It is a lot of fun though.  The key is to try it on and see if it works.  Don’t be afraid to exit your fashion comfort zone!

Abrazos,
